Traces of artificial radionuclides in Scandinavia

The Scandinavian authorities announced on their websites that artificial radionuclides were detected in the air in the first half of June 2020. The measured concentrations of radionuclides are very low and pose no danger to humans or the environment.

Chernobyl forest fires April 2020 (update 2021)

In 2020, particularly serious forest fires occurred in the area of the exclusion zone around Chernobyl (1986 nuclear power plant accident). Tiny traces of radioactive caesium-137 may have been transported as far as Switzerland.

Current forest fires in Ukraine, including those in the exclusion zone around Chernobyl, are again releasing radioactivity (primarily Cs-137) into the atmosphere.
